Masters in Tourism Management Graduate
Most people want to know why I gave up a career as a Private Banking Manager to return to college - they usually tell me this was a very "brave" decision, which I interpret to really mean "totally mad!" - but it wasn't as impulsive as it sounds regrettably. It's a long story, so ask me about it...
I was approached and recruited for a role as a Private Banking Manager for a newly forming Private Banking division but before the role was established the company underwent a major restructuring plan involving significant redundancies. During my brief time with Dankse Bank I was involved with several projects including the development and presentation of a new business development strategy, the redesign of the employee induction guide, and the drafting of discussion papers for product proposals. I also used this time to research academic programmes in case a redundancy situation arose.

Private Banking Manager - Bank of Ireland
Jun 2000 - Nov 2011
I began working in Bank of Ireland as a cashier for the summer after graduating college and I found enough variety, challenges, educational support, fun and friendships to keep me there for 11 years.
I progressed from Cashier to Customer Service Advisor, Mortgage Advisor, Financial Advisor, and Private Client Manager while simultaneously studying for most of these years.
While I developed valuable skills in credit analysis, communication and negotiation, I also learned to connect naturally with people from all backgrounds and walks of life. In terms of creativity, I introduced a team newsletter, designed procedure guides and flowcharts, and I produced internal presentations and reports.
I returned to Bank of Ireland to work on a 4 month project for the first semester of my Masters course in 2012.
I studied History and French for 4 years which included a year of study in the University of Caen in Normandy, France. I've held on to my passion for both subjects and I continue to study French (most recently Business French with the Alliance Francaise in Dublin) and read historical books, visit places of historical interest and watch films and documentaries.
The Masters (Level 9) was a full-time taught programme consisting of modules such as:
- Marketing Communications (x2)
- IT & Web Design
- Policy & Planning
- Sustainability
- Management Strategy
- Law, HR, Finance
The subject of my thesis (due for submission in Sept 2013) is Attendee Motivation in the Conference Sector. The course was very demanding in terms of coursework but also very rewarding and enjoyable, providing a broad understanding of the travel industry and the issues, trends, and challenges associated with it.
